Take a trip from past to present by exploring the Ypsilanti Historical Museum and Archives.  Housed in an 1860 house, the museum displays rooms furnished as in the 1960's.  Also, extensive biographical information of individuals and families, plus thousands of artifacts and records from the City of Ypsilanti and the surrounding area, including collections of clothing, furniture, toys, kitchenware, photographs, business history and tools.

Quilt Exhibit – Featuring quilts made by men and women of the area; antique, modern, contemporary and traditional.  We have had about 100 quilts each year for five years.

Christmas
– The house is beautifully decorated for Christmas, complete with a 10 ft. Christmas Tree. Tuesday-Sunday 2-5 p.m.

Open HouseSpecial day for all to see, with refreshments – no charge, 2-5 p.m.

New Years Jubilee – We participate with the city on their non-alcoholic evening.  We have some kind of entertainment. Great time to celebrate together with the whole family.   We have refreshments, Christmas decorations, 6:30 – 10 p.m.

Art Show – An Exhibit of local artists’ work in pastels, acrylics and oils; portraits, landscapes and more.

Ypsilanti Exhibit – This exhibit is the history of the city and features may be buildings and businesses of past and present or important people of the city, then and now. Going back to 1823 to 2008.

Heritage Festival – The city has a Festival celebrating the history of the city in many ways. They have encampments and we follow with special exhibits.

Our museum is free, and with Pass visitors will receive a 15% discount in our gift shop, excluding the Atlas and other books.  Also a 15% discount of membership dues.

 


   

Resources


The Ypsilanti Museum has a variety of books, CD, DVDs, etc. relating to the Ypsilanti Area.  The Archives are available to all and have many pieces of information about home and business locations and citizens filling a number of file cabinets.  It is also a very good source for genealogy study.
